RN/Manager – Emergency Department

LOCATION:  Seneca County (NY)

A multi-institutional health system that provides a full range of acute and long term care health services to residents of the Finger Lakes region in Upstate New York is seeking an experienced RN/Manager with a solid and consistent work history within a Skilled Nursing/LTC facility to join their team and oversee the Rehab Unit. The facility has 130 skilled nursing beds, 20 behavioral beds, and one Respite bed for scheduled short-term stays.

The Nurse Manager has major responsibility for implementation of strategies and activities designed to achieve and support uncompromising quality, exceptional patient safety and an outstanding patient / resident family experience. The Nurse Manager intentionally creates an environment that fosters staff development, staff empowerment, collegial relationships and best practice in the delivery of nursing care. The Nurse Manager  allocates  resources to promote efficient, effective, compassionate and fiscally responsible nursing care. The Nurse Manager assures the coordination of care across department lines through a focus on systems that promote interdisciplinary collaboration and communication. The Nurse Manager participates in the recruitment, selection and retention of personnel.  Assures appropriate orientation, education, credentialing and continuing professional development for personnel accountable to the nurse manager. Responsible for supervision and oversite of the Emergency Department, SSH Clinical Leaders, Medic 55 ALS Program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate from an accredited RN Program, Masters in Nursing. or related field is required
  • Must have current NYS licensure to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS required through the RQI system during clinical orientation
  • Basic Coronary Care within 90 days of hire
  • TNCC required within 18 months of hire
  • Must have at least 3-4 years of experience as an RN in an Emergency Department with at least one (1) year of experience as Nurse Manager in an Emergency Department is required
  • Skills:
    • Moderate sedation competency within six months of hire into this position
    • Interpersonal skills which ensure effective communication with staff, patients, families, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team
    • Knowledgeable in the area of management systems and processes
    • Demonstrated ability to establish effective work relationships in an effort to lead others in the direction of meeting organizational objectives
    • Analytical skills to assess departmental needs, develop, and implement planned interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of applied interventions
    • Ability to facilitate project management, work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities and enhance the spirit of teamwork through effective role modeling
    • Familiarity with The Joint Commission requirements
    • Computer literacy required with word processing, spreadsheets
    • Preferred:  Experience with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint & Meditech
  • Able to jump in and be hands on clinically to assist staff
  • Able to travel between two facilities 25 minutes apart
  • Must have consistent and recent employment history within the Emergency Department
